Rank of Poker Hands
There are a few exceptions, but for most forms of poker the following ranks of poker hands apply.
| Poker hands from highest to lowest |
| Hand | Description | Examples |
| Royal Flush | Simply the highest straight flush. | A |K |Q |J |10 |
| Straight Flush | A straight that is also a flush | 3 |4 |5 |6 |7 |
| 4 of a kind | 4 cards of the same rank | J |J |J |J |7 |
| Full house | 3 cards of the same rank, two cards of another rank. | 3 |3 |3 |5 |5 |
| Flush | 5 cards of the same suit | 2 |7 |9 |J |A |
| Straight | 5 cards of consecutive rank | 6 |7 |8 |9 |10 |
| 3 of a Kind | 3 cards of the same rank | 9 |9 |9 |5 |6 |
| 2 pair | 2 cards of one rank, and 2 cards of another rank | 10 |10 |K |K |3 |
| Pair | 2 cards of the same rank | 8 |8 |5 |J |Q |
| High Card | The highest card in your hand | 4 |7 |8 |9 |K |
There are those who attempt to enforce an order among the suits, whereas hearts would be greater than diamonds. This is false. If two players have the same exact hand, but different suits, the pot would be split between them. (If no one else has a better hand of course.)
